This Is Where We Begin
A note from the studio, the soul, and the strategy lab. Visionary Insights #21 – The First Beehiiv Edition 🎉

Let me introduce myself… Hi, I’m Lily 👋 If you believe art and imagination deserve a place in business... | ![]() |
You Weren’t Meant to Do This Alone
After 20 editions on LinkedIn, I’m thrilled to welcome you to my new creative home here on Beehiiv. This isn’t just a new platform—it’s a fresh chapter.
And I can’t think of a better way to begin than with a story about the one thing we can’t do without: Connection.
THE REAL TAKEAWAY
Why We Burn Out (And What Actually Heals Us)
I’ve spent the past few years researching human connection through my art and writing, and if there’s one truth I keep returning to, it’s this:
We are neurobiologically wired for connection.
And yet, somehow, we’ve created a culture that glorifies doing it all alone.
We treat rest like a guilty pleasure, burnout like a branding issue, and asking for help like it’s a character flaw.
I used to believe that myth, too.
I thought burnout was something I could fix with better time-blocking or enough essential oils.
Take a bath. Meditate. Organize your calendar until your soul stops screaming. ✨
But here’s the truth—straight from the science and also, you know, real life:
Burnout isn’t a personal failure.
It’s a social wound.
And the solution isn’t more hustle hacks. It’s human connection.
Connection Literally Changes Your Brain
In long-term studies on resilience, the people who recovered best from burnout didn’t just take more naps—they had deeper relationships. Real ones.
As Dr. Brené Brown puts it:
Connection is the energy that exists between people when they feel seen, heard, and valued.
And let’s be honest—most of what we call “connection” in modern life is... performative at best.
What we need is the soul-holding kind:
💫 The “I’ll come over and cook while you fall apart” kind
💫 The “I saved this opportunity for you because I believe in your magic” kind
💫 The “Here’s a quote I found that reminded me of your power” kind
My Life Lately (AKA: The Burnout Rescue Crew)
This month was… a lot. But I wasn’t alone:
A mentor reminded me that I’m not behind—I’m becoming
A neighbor made space to listen—no fixing, no rushing
My friends saw the version of me I’m still growing into—and chose to stay
These moments weren’t just heartwarming.
They were healing.
Connection triggers the release of oxytocin—the trust hormone—and lowers cortisol (aka the "you're-being-chased-by-a-bear" chemical).
Meanwhile, isolation?
Your brain treats it like physical pain. (Yes, really.)
How to tell if someone is truly…
Sunshine or Clouds?
One night, over drinks in Lawrenceville, my friend Brittany (a hot yoga instructor I met visiting a sauna—the vibe ikr) looked me dead in the eyes and said:
“People are either sunshine or clouds. If you can’t tell which one they are—they’re a cloud.”
I gasped.
I wrote it down in my Notes app immediately.
And now I’m sharing it with you:
Make more space for sunshine. This isn’t just poetic. It’s protective.

What You Need to Remember
You don’t have to earn your rest.
Rest isn’t a reward. It’s the foundation of everything worthwhile.
You don’t have to prove your worth.
You’re already enough—no résumé or gold star required.
You don’t have to do this alone.
Because you never were meant to.
Your Homework (But Like, The Soft Kind)
If you’re feeling foggy, fried, or emotionally Frito-Lay™ today, I want you to ask yourself:
Who reminds you who you are when you forget?
Who sees the real you—even when you’re messy?
Who celebrates your joy like it’s their own?
Text them. Thank them. Let them know.
These connections are the threads holding the world together.
